In Portals to home (Pari & Hatukul), 2022 mother and daughter artist's, Marilyn and Taloi Havini’s collaboration engages with ideas of home and inheritance. As a Nakas re-naming ritual, Taloi was bestowed the name Pari since father passed and Hatukul was given to Marilyn Taleo.
Marilyn's most recent Cloud Series are spiritual reflections intersecting with her father, a cloud scientist. Equally engaged with life-long study of a place, Taloi has re-framed her photos to appear as portals. Like her mother's paintings these float on the surface of her life-sized photos taken in-situ where they live in Ngalkobul village, Bougainville. This new collaboration marks a time in their lives where they are honouring their familial ties.
